Bonds, energy bonds...

It is absolutely unacceptable that the United States is dependent upon foreign countries to meet our energy needs. We have the natural resources, the technical expertise, the market demand and a motivated energy industry. All we lack is the political leadership in Washington, DC. Not only has Congress failed to provide legislation that enables sufficient domestic energy development, they have been a liability – blocking solutions and standing in the way of technological advances. Sustainable energy independence is a national security imperative and the most important issue of our time.

An 'A' Rating from the NRA!

As a gunowner, sportsman and advocate for 2nd Amendment rights, I am very proud to have received an 'AQ' rating from the NRA. The 'Q' means 'qualified' and is the NRA's way of saying that I haven't cast any votes yet, but they like what they hear.

Have a look at the NRA Political Victory Fund website to see the ratings.

If we really want to protect 2nd Amendment rights in the future, it won't be enough to continue to rely on a one party approach. We need to send more Democrats to Congress that are strong advocates for these rights, particularly now that Dems are in the majority.

The Economy that Wrecked Itself

This train did not wreck itself, but nobody is taking responsibility. Through action, inaction, and failed oversight, Congress (both parties) and the Bush administration have crafted this economy. Political action committees (PACs) representing the financial sector contribute heavily to campaigns and lobby strongly against regulation. Unfortunately, there is no comparable force lobbying on behalf of the people for transparency, fair lending, and responsible asset management. The members of the House that voted for the bailout on Monday received an average of 51% more campaign contributions from the finance, insurance and real estate sector than those that voted against it. That’s no coincidence.

Who needs Change for a Buck?

We've begun a new campaign called 'Change for a Buck'. The idea is that most of the voting public feels that PACs and big business have all of the power in elections because they are able to contibute large sums of money while most voters can't afford much more than a few dollars. 'Change for a Buck' is our effort to show that those few dollars - and the voices they represent - can really make a difference if we can bring together enough of them.

Wyoming State Democratic Convention 2008

The 2008 Wyoming State Democratic Convention has come and gone. The Teton County Democrats did a spectacular job organizing and hosting the event at the Snow King in Jackson. Turnout was incredible, with nearly 700 people in attendance. I'd like to congratulate the Delegates that were chosen to attend the National Convention in Denver to represent the interests of the Wyoming Democratic voters as our presidential candidate is chosen.
