While a number of people have filed to run for Albany County public offices up for election this November, only two candidates have submitted the required paperwork with the city of Laramie to run for council as of Friday.
However, with a filing deadline of May 28 for most public offices, there is still plenty of time for more candidates to step forward. The filing period for hospital district, school board, fire district and conservation district is from Aug. 4-24. Five seats on school board will be open, as will five seats on hospital board.
Current Laramie City Councilor Bryan Shuster has filed to run again for his seat in Ward Two. Laramie resident Paul Weaver has filed to run for an at-large seat. Four city council seats will be open during the 2010 election — one at-large seat, one seat in Ward One, one in Ward Two and one in Ward Three.
Six have filed to run for the two Albany County Commission seats up for election in November: Democrats Pat Gabriel, Hugh Lockhart and Tim Chesnut along with Republicans Jerry Kennedy, John Brengman and Eric Lewis.
Democrats Kevin Lundahl, Dave O’Malley and Republican Robert Miller have filed to run for sheriff. Republican Jesse Taylor and Democrat Kathleen Vernon have filed for county coroner.
Republican Richard Bohling has filed to run for county attorney, Democrat Grant Showacre filed for assessor, Republican Janice Sexton for clerk of district court, Democrat Jackie Gonzales for county clerk and Democrat Linda Simpson for treasurer.
For state legislature, Democrats Chris Rothfuss and Jodi Guerin have filed to run in Senate District Nine. In Senate District 11, which includes a small portion of Albany County, Republicans Blake Waldrop, Larry Hicks and Sue Hewitt have filed. Democrat Jim Elliott has also filed to run for senate District 11.
In House District 13 Democrat Cathy Connolly has filed. Republican Kermit Brown has filed for house district 14. Democrat William “Bud” Moore and Republican Matthias Greene have filed for house district 45. Republican Glenn Moniz filed for house district 46.
